This course focuses on the writings of authors named John in the New Testament, with attention to the context, literary structure, and theological message of these documents. The course will feature exegetical study of the Gospel of John and Revelation, with special attention to how these writings encourage Christian communities to follow Jesus. This course will also introduce some of the main issues in academic discussions of these writings, so that students can utilize commentaries and other academic resources in future study.

  • Develop an understanding of the unique structure and contribution of the Gospel of John and Revelation
  • Practice and refine your exegetical skills for Bible study, preaching, and ministry  
  • Learn to critically engage the tools of academic biblical studies to develop and refine your understanding of John and Revelation’s messages
  • Engage your imagination, creativity, and skill to analyze the biblical text

This course fulfills a Bible elective requirement for all majors and minors in the Department of Christian Ministry and Formation or may serve as a general elective course.
