Christian education is more than creating engaging programs for children. It is the intentional partnership of the church, the family, and the Holy Spirit in forming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. This course exists to equip future ministry leaders to think theologically, developmentally, and strategically about that calling.
Children are not merely the future of the Church; they are active participants in the Kingdom of God and members of the Body of Christ today. Because of this, ministry to children must move beyond age-appropriate activities to creating environments where children encounter God, respond to the work of the Holy Spirit, participate in the life of the Church, and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Throughout the semester, students examine the biblical, theological, developmental, and practical foundations of Christian education while developing a personal philosophy of ministry to children and families. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to articulate and implement a theology-driven philosophy of ministry that faithfully partners with families, engages the whole church, and nurtures lifelong discipleship.
